Avalanche Studios reassures consumers after leaked screenshots show in-game purchases

No microtransactions in Just Cause 3

Just Cause 3 will not contain microtransactions, nor will it be a free-to-play game, says developer Avalance Studios.

The new game – announced via the latest issue of Game Informer – will instead be a traditional retail game for Xbox One, PS4 and PC next year, with a full game download also available.

Leaked screenshots suggested that the game would feature in-game purchases, but Avalanche co-founder and CCO Christofer Sundberg says these were from early prototypes, according to Eurogamer.

"Those leaked screenshots were taken from an ancient version of Just Cause 3," he explained. "Like most games, this one went through an exploratory phase where we looked at different control schemes, different technologies, different business models.

"Those… screenshots show aspects of that process, an in no way reflect the game we are making today."

Sundberg added that there are plans for post-launch DLC, as there was with Just Cause 2.

The misunderstanding comes hot on the heels of controversy surrounding the newly-released Assassin’s Creed Unity, a full retail game in which Ubisoft has included microtransactions ranging between $19.99 and $99.99 to unlock in-game content.
