Console giant firmly denies rumours

‘No truth’ to Android-based Nintendo NX reports

Nintendo has denied its upcoming NX platform will be based on Google’s Android operating system.

A source had claimed to Nikkei earlier this week thet console firm was eyeing up the OS. Though it had not been able to get confirmation at the time, it suggested the move was a possibility as Nintendo looked to attract more third-party developer support following its struggles on the Wii U.

The firm has now denied these claims however.

"There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX," a Nintendo spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal.

The exact form the Nintendo NX will take is still unclear. Company president Satoru Iwata has previously described it as a dedicated game platform with a “brand new concept”.

More information on the platform is expected next year.
