Pioneering virtual reality headset due on September 20th

Oculus Rift given UK release date

Oculus has announced its hotly anticipated Rift headset will be launched in the UK next month.

The device, which has pioneered the new virtual reality movement, will be available from September 20th, with plans for nationwide demos at key retail locations planned for the weeks leading up to launch.

Demos that will be used to showcase the potential for VR will include Crytek’s The Climb and Oculus’ own Farlands – although consumers are being asked to schedule a demo at their local retailer first.

Every Oculus Rift will come bundled with the firm’s 3D platforming game Lucky’s Tale, as well as hundreds fo free 3D 360-degree videos.

The launch means VR devs will finally have a better defined audience to target, although how well the device will sell remains to be seen. A raised price of £549 – plus the cost of an Oculus-ready PC – may prove to be a barrier for some.
