Ontario Govt: Tax-break alternative needed

Minister of economic development and trade for Ontario Sandra Pupatello has suggested that Canadian jurisdictions must come up with alternatives to run alongside tax-breaks.

Speaking to Develop as part of our Canada Special, Pupatello has addressed the issue that as rival provinces attempt to offer the most appealing tax-break benefits to studios considering a move to the country, there is a danger the competition could snowball into an unworkable situation.

“At some point, governments are going to say: ‘Ok. Stop now.’ That’s why we have to consider that we have other alternatives for being the kind of jurisdiction people want to be in.” suggested Pupatello. “When we talked to people in the information communication technology sector they said their number one reason for being in any jurisdiction is talent.”
