Silicon Studio joins wave of middleware firms offering tech for PS4 development

Post-processing effects tool Yebis 2 supports PS4

Post-processing effects middleware Yebis 2 is the latest tool suite to be available for PS4 developers.

Created by Silicon Studio, the real-time post-processing tech features multi-colour customisable glare effects, depth of field effects allowing developers to apply bokeh effects “as realistic as photographing with a real lens” and motion blur.

The tech also supports Direct X 11 and allows for real-time colour adjustment of rendering effects.

Yebis 2 has been used by Square Enix in its Agni’s Philosophy demo showcasing the publisher’s Luminous engine, as well as by other companies such as Tecmo Koei, From Software and Idea Factory.

“We are very excited to bring Yebis 2, and the rest of our software, to Western developers,” said Silicon Studio CEO Takehiko Terada.

“We are confident that developers will find that our middleware is easy to use, powerful, and effective in manifesting their visions perfectly.”

Silicon Studio is the latest in a wave of middleware firms to pledge support for the PS4, with other companies such as Havok, Rad Game Tools, BitSquid, Epic and Geomerics making their tools compatible for PS4 development.
