Surprise – it’s based on the upcoming movie, rather than the games

Practical Magic, Fox and Ubisoft team up for VR Assassin’s Creed

There won’t be a new Assassin’s Creed game this year, but that hasn’t stopped Ubisoft expanding the franchise into new areas.

Namely, with a brand new VR experience based on the historical assassination series.

Yet, if you think it’s a game, the head of Practical Magic, Matthew Lewis, is here to extinguish your conspicuously-placed bonfire, insisting plainly on-stage at GDC: “It’s not.”

Instead, Assassin’s Creed VR Experience, as the not-game is so fetchingly titled, is based on the upcoming movie adaptation starring Michael Fassbender’s 15th-century Spanish blade fanatic.

It’s the result of a collaboration between Ubisoft, Fox and Practical Magic, and will feature scenes from the film.

Although you might want to keep your eyes peeled for an Abstergo Industries-branded headset, just in case.
