New version adds OpenStreetMap import, Google Earth export

Procedural builds new CityEngine

Zurich tech firm Procedural Inc. has updated CityEngine, its procedural city generation software.

The new version adds OpenStreetMap import, city model export to RenderMan and Google Earth, a swathe of video tutorials and user manuals, and a new interface to control building parameters, complete with automatic aligned regeneration of models upon parameter change.

“Usually it can take up to several man years to model a 3D city,” said Pascal Mueller, CEO of Procedural.

“The CityEngine significantly accelerates this process. And with the new OpenStreetMap feature, users can import now every urban street network in the world. On the corresponding parcels, users can then instantly generate 3D buildings by using the CityEngine’s unique grammar rule engine.”
