'Former employees' claim unannounced console in the works

Report: PS4 harnesses AMD tech

Sony is working on a new console that will use AMD graphics technology, according to a report.

News agency Forbes is reporting that “former AMD employees” have confirmed a new platform is in the works, most likely the PlayStation 4.

The sources also claimed that the tech outfit would play a key part in the new system.

AMD graphics tech is currently used in the Xbox 360, whilst Sony had previously used Nvidia to power the PS3. The move if true would mark a distinct change in strategy for the company.

Sony CTO George Bailey and AMD declined to comment on the story.

Sony has yet to officially announced that it is working on the PlayStation 4, but Develop understands that several Sony studios are already working on early prototype games for the system.
