Awesomenauts developer aims for independence following DTP bankruptcy filing

Ronimo turns to Kickstarter after bad publisher experience

Ronimo Games has launched a new $125,000 Kickstarter campaign for an expansion to its MOBA title Awesomenauts.

The campaign for Awesomenauts: Starstorm went live on August 19th, and has already raised $72,417 from over 1,300 backers at the time of writing, with 28 days left to go.

If successful, the expansion will add new characters, features such as spectator mode global chat and twin-stick mobile support, as well as a new map to the game.

Speaking to Polygon, Ronimo studio head Jasper Koning said the developer turned to crowdfunding after a “pretty bad experience” with ex-publisher DTP Entertainment, which filed for bankruptcy last year.

The studio is now looking to plot a path to independence, although it still has to pay half of all of its profits to a representative company of DTP.

Koning added that the team could consider another publishing deal in future, “but as long as we don’t have to, we won’t”.
