Schafer announces crowdfunding pitch for Psychonauts 2

Double Fine is looking for $3.3m to make a sequel to 2005 platformer Psychonauts.

Tim Schafer announced the game at The Game Awards last night. Along with the money raised from crowdfunding platform Fig, the game will also be propped up by the studio itself and investors. In total an estimated $10-$13.5m will be needed.

The game itself will continue the adventure of mind-invader Raz, featuring both old and new powers. Psychonauts HQ will provide the game’s hub.

Many of the creators from the first game are returning for this sequel, including artists Scott Campbell, Peter Chan and Nathan Stapley, along with composer Peter McConnell and voice stars Richard Horvitz and Nicki Rapp. Khris Brown and Erik Wolpaw also return.

Returning developers include Anna Kipnis, Bert Chang, Dave ‘Rusty’ Russell, Geoff Soulis, Kee Chi, Malena Annable, and Ray Crook.

The original game took five years to develop, but Double Fine hopes to get Psychonauts 2 out by 2018, even though it’s still in the very early stages of development.
