Dutch casual games website group Spil Games has announced the first set of monthly winners of its HTML5 mobile games development contest.
Puzzle title Sand Trap took the top prize, and Spil used the occasion to announce that its multiple new mobile gaming sites, launched six weeks ago, have racked up more than 1.5m game-plays since launch.

The UK games development sector is facing its most severe downturn on record, with employment falling at the fastest rate ever measured and start-up activity collapsing to a 15-year low, according to new research published today by TIGA, the trade association representing the UK video games industry.
