Other developers invited to pitch content for LA-based experience 'accessible to the masses'

Starbreeze to open Project StarCade virtual reality arcade

Payday studio Starbreeze is to launch a virtual arcade hall this year.

Currently named Project StarCade, the venue will be based in Los Angeles and will offer a range of VR experiences that the firm claims are aimed at ‘enthusiasts and novices alike’.

A final location is yet to be disclosed, but StarCade is set to open this summer.

Other developers will be invited to take part in the initiative, with available tools also set to be revealed at a later date.

“We continue to iterate the fact that VR really needs to be experienced in person to fully be able to appreciate the phenomenon, and why not have your first experience in a real premium setting in our StarVR headset?” asked Starbreeze CTO Emmanuel Marquez.

“We’re developing our own StarCade catalogue of experiences, but we’re open to any content. We will invite developers to join us and give them the opportunity to put their content in our StarCade. We as an industry continuously need to educate ourselves to make VR truly successful, and this is just the first step in our planning to do so.”
