FIFA 12 wins game of the year at 2012 Canadian Video Game Awards

Sword & Sworcery, Deus Ex sweep Canadian awards

Sword & Sworcery and Deus Ex: Human Revolution took all but five of the fifteen awards presented at the 2012 Canadian Video Games Awards show.

The Vancouver show recognized outstanding games from Canadian studios released in 2011.

Although EA’s FIFA 12 took the high honors of game of the year, Capybara and Eidos both took home five awards each, with the remainder split between EA, Ubisoft, and Exploding Barrel.

Game of the year is chosen by an online public vote, while the rest of the awards are picked by a team of advisors and industry professionals.

Deus Ex took home best console game, best audio, best game design, best writing, and best new character.

Capybara and Superbrother’s hit iOS game Sword & Sworcery drew five awards for best game on the go, best downloadable game, best indie game, best original music, and the innovation award.

EA managed to glean two awards for its FIFA and NHL franchises, while Ubisoft Montreal took two for Assasin’s Creed: Revelations, and Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012.

The award for best social game went to Exploding Barrel Games for Margaritaville Online.
