Campaign from System Shock: Enhanced Edition co-creator Night Dive Studios to launch at end of June with an as-yet unspecified target

System Shock: Remastered to use Unity, headed to Kickstarter

New details have emerged about Night Dive Studios’ ground-up remake of seminal RPG System Shock.

The developer behind the game’s previously-released Enhanced Edition – which, unlike this upcoming project, was simply a polished-up version of the original – acquired the rights to the System Shock IP from the Star Insurance Company last November.

Night Dive is teaming up with members of the Looking Glass Studios team who developed the iconic sci-fi title back in 1994, including the original concept artist, who Night Dive said would help “the original vision of the Citadel Station and its inhabitants finally come back to life”.

It also revealed that System Shock: Remastered Edition will be built in Unity, adding that it would work to “keep the new game true to the classic experience, keeping all the things you loved, while updating the user interface and graphics to use a modern day engine”.

Expanding in a Facebook post, Night Dive added that it will launch a Kickstarter campaign for the remastered title on June 29th. A funding target was not specified.

System Shock: Remastered is just one of the new System Shock projects in the works.

Otherside Entertainment, formed by Looking Glass co-founder Paul Neurath, is working with series co-creator Warren Spector to produce a sequel, System Shock 3.
