Original indie hit has sold 600,000 units to date

Team17 developing Walking Dead spin-off of The Escapists

Team17 is developing and publishing a spin-off of indie game The Escapists based on hit comic book and TV show The Walking Dead.

The project is being created in collaboration with Skybound Entertainment and sees lead character Rick Grimes tasked with securing the safest route out of various locales filled with hordes of zombies. The game is scheduled for release on Xbox One and PC this year.

The Escapists was created by indie developer Chris Davis under the studio name Mouldy Toof, and was published by Team17. To date, the game has sold 600,000 copies.

A spokesman told Develop that Davis would not be working on The Walking Dead spin-off so as to focus on developing new games, which the company will also publish. Davis still retains the rights to The Escapists IP, he added.
