Studio behind the Walking Dead snaps up HBO television series as its next production

Telltale forging Game of Thrones adventure series for 2014

Telltale Games is working on an episodic adventure game based on the fantasy TV series Game of Thrones.

The Californian developer, famed for its work on the video game adaptation of the Walking Dead, announced the production on Spike’s VGX awards, confirming an earlier IGN report.

The television series, based by George RR Martin’s fantasy novels, has amassed a huge following on both sides of the Atlantic and is known for its Hollywood production values, scenes of bloody violence and frequent nudity.

“We’ll be taking advantage of all the fiction to make something great,” said Telltale Games CEO Dan Connors, in an interview after the premiere of the announcement trailer.

“We’re just really getting into it right now and thinking about characters – who has the most at stake, who has the biggest impact on the world.”

Game of Thrones is scheduled to arrive in 2014.

In addition to the fantasy series, Telltale also announced that it is working on an adventure game based on Gearbox’s Borderlands franchise, called Tales form the Borderlands. For the immediate future, the studio is working on a second season to its well-received Walking Dead adventure series.
