The Walking Dead sells 8.5m episodes, mobile best-performing platform

Telltale Games CEO Dan Connors has revealed the studio’s episodic adventure hit The Walking Dead wrapped up the last two months of 2012 with its biggest sales push yet.

Connors told the Wall Street Journal that the developing series has sold 8.5m episodes since launching last year.

November and December were our biggest months. It was the culmination of the product, the game of the year awards, the retail push, and it still has a ton of head room in it,” Connors said. The episodic model has allowed us to create an economy that works on mobile. As far as size, at this point it’s probably about 25% of the revenue of the product and it is on the largest upswing of all platforms as well.”

The Telltale boss added that the iOS version shines brightest when the television show of the same canon is actively running.

I think we see with iOS products, we see more impact from when the show is on, when there’s stress about the show.”

Connors also stated that similar price points of the various versions have resulted in revenue of around $16 per user across all platforms.
