Tomb Raider studio cuts a dozen from unrelated IP

Twelve laid off at Crystal Dynamics

A team of twelve has been laid off at Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics, the studio has confirmed.

The latest installment in the Tomb Raider franchise, published by Square Enix, sold quite well but still fell short of the high expectations placed on the game.

Kotaku reports that the studio has now laid off about a dozen employees who were working on an unrelated franchise.

“We’ve made some decisions at Crystal Dynamics last week around the second project we’re working on, which has resulted in a small number of roles (roughly 12) becoming redundant as we re-scope the project,” confirmed Crystal Dynamics.

“This doesn’t affect the Tomb Raider development team, who as confirmed last week are well into production on a next-generation sequel. We’re a close-knit team at Crystal and wouldn’t be making these changes if we didn’t feel it was absolutely necessary.”

The studio is hoping to find new homes for its affected workers, and encourages teams with available positions to get in contact.

“We’ll help those affected as best we can and we want to thank them for their hard work and commitment,” the company said.

“If anyone is looking for development talent, please contact mtrout@crystald.com and we’ll put you in touch direct.”
