New initiative aims to raise the profile of female speakers available for conferences

Unity helps set up diverse speaker database WISER

The firm behind the widely-used Unity engine has teamed up with trade body Open Gaming Alliance to help move the conversation of industry diversity forward.

The two companies have launched WISER – Women in Software and Entertainment Representation – a speaker database and event resource designed to help more industry conference source female speakers.

WISER aims to “shift the conversation” from attracting and retaining women in games positions across the industry to “normalising their very presence”.

“This doesn’t mean women speaking about being a woman in the industry,” Unity writes on its blog. “It means encouraging and enabling women to be on stage speaking about their specific area of expertise.”

The two companies have opened a call for women interested in speaking to take part. Applicants will be approved by peers and added to the database, which will only be available to approved and vetted individuals.
