Unity launches new centre of innovation in Malaysia

Malaysia’s Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has partnered with Unity to transform a current incubation space into a centre of innovation, the first to be set up in Southeast Asia. The incubator in question is LEVEL UP, a space created by the MDEC to grow talent in the region. By partnering with Unity the MDEC can provide access to all the tools and resources they need to make globally successful games.

So far nine game studios are already taking advantage of the new space and focus is being given to those in “early-stage game creation”, according to a report by Tech Wire Asia. The Southeast Asian development scene is one that’s growing at a fantastic rate and partnerships like these will only help propel the region even further onto the global stage.

“To be the first country in Southeast Asia to establish a Unity Centre of Innovation marks a significant milestone in our mission to position Malaysia as a regional hub for game production and development by 2025,” says MDEC COO, Ng Wan Peng, to Tech Wire Asia.

“We have worked closely with Unity over the years to nurture the next generation of game developers through LEVEL UP at schools and through Unity certification programs. We are confident that the new Unity Centre of Innovation will propel the growth of our games industry to an important cornerstone of the digital economy in Malaysia.”
