US office to work on game engine deployment tools for new platforms

Unity opens new Boston studio

Middleware giant Unity has opened a new studio in Boston after acquiring technology outfit Darkwind Media.

The new office will focus on developing deployment tools for a number of platforms both currently in development and those it plans to support in future.

Darkwind has already worked with Unity for over three years to build deployment tools to bring its game engine to new platforms, such as porting its tools for BlackBerry, Smart TVs and set-top boxes.

The team’s first project under the Unity Boston name will be to work on new add-ons for BlackBerry and “other upcoming technological additions to Unity”.

“Hiring the platform experts from Darkwind Media to be in-house developers makes a lot of sense for the continued development of Unity,” said Unity CEO David Helgason.

“We’ve been working with this team for years and watched them develop an exceptional understanding of Unity. This is an experienced and talented team and we are incredibly excited to see them come on board as our new Boston office.”
