Take part in survey to help define how different personalities help or hinder studio staff

University researching developers’ wellbeing

A new study is looking into the wellbeing of games developers – but this is more than just tales of crunch.

Run by Lancaster University Management School, the project is entitled ‘Investigation Personality Traits in Game Development Teams: Implications for Managing Multiple Disciplines’.

The study aims to learn more about the different personality types working in gaming, the experience of working among such personalities, as well as working environments and overall quality of life.

The research is being led by the university’s Dr Patrick Stacey and Miriam Sturdee. You can take part by filling in the survey, which can be found here. It takes ten minutes to fill in, and instantly gives you a breakdown of your own personality.

Responses are anonymous. Develop will be reporting on the results after the project is completed.

"Quality of life has been a significant issue for global games development," said Stacey. "Surveys and reports in the media have focused on pay and conditions in the sector. We bring a fresh dynamic to this topic by introducing personality theory.

"No such study has ever been conducted in the games development sector – we ask: how do personality types and their diverse combinations in games development affect quality of life at work?"
