Valve announce new LG VR headset compatible with SteamVR

Valve has confirmed that a new headset will be entering the SteamVR ecosystem with LG Electronics leaping into the ring with a prototype of its own SteamVR compatible head-mounted display at GDC this week.

Valve announced LG’s prototype, and the fact it’d be coming to San Francisco based Games Developer Conference (GDC) this week in a press release. The statement was brief but did indicate that those visiting Valve’s GDC booth could get their hands on the LG headset, which is "designed to deliver a high fidelity, next generation VR experience."

Valve are hoping to get feedback from developers to gather feedback and first impressions during the hands-on sessions, and this feedback and information will supposedly inform the company’s push towards a viable commercial unit.

There’s no information yet on features, pricing, technology or even when we might get further glimpses of this LG headset, but new technology furthering the medium could be of real interest to those currently developing in virtual reality.
