Full commercial launch set for Q1 2016

Valve’s Vive VR to ship in ‘limited quantity’ this year

Valve’s Vive VR headset will release to the public later this year, but only in limited quantities.

The tech, developed in collaboration with HTC, had been set for a full consumer launch before Christmas. This would have seen it pip the consumer Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus to market.

Though a limited supply will be available for sale this year, the majority of Vive VR hardware will be shipped in Q1 2016.

“Later this year, HTC will offer the first commercial Vive units via a limited quantity of community and developer systems, with larger quantities shipping in calendar Q1 2016,” read a statement.

Develop got the chance to try out a prototype of the Vive VR during GDC earlier this year. You can read about our hands-on with the headset here.
