Sony adding support for PlayStation 3 gamepad to its smartphone line

Video: Xperia phones to support DualShock 3

The DualShock 3 has been shown in action as a game controller on Sony’s line of Xperia smartphones.

Sony’s move into mobile development has taken some surprising turns: first its integration with the PlayStation Vita through PlatStation mobile, and now this novel addition of a full sized controler for a half-pint sized screen.

A video (shown below) posted on Sony Mobile Communications product training manager Tom Randall’s YouTube page shows the gamepad being set up and at work on an Xperia SP.

The DualShock 3 could be used on Android devices previously through the use of a third-party app, but this is the first official support the controler has enjoyed in the mobile market.

Though the instalation process requires a USB connector, once installed the device works through Bluetooth.
