Studio behind Heavy Rain HD, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster and mobile versions of Mortal Kombat X and XCOM to bring enhanced models, environments, lighting, effects and shaders to first two entries in Rocksteady’s superhero series

Virtuos remastering Batman: Return to Arkham collection in Unreal Engine 4

The upcoming Batman: Return to Arkham remastered double-pack is being developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 4.

The developer has previously worked on HD revamps of games including Final Fantasy X/X-2, Heavy Rain and Fable.

In addition, the outlet has ported a number of console and PC titles to iOS and Android, such as Mortal Kombat X, XCOM, Injustice and NBA 2K14.

More recently, it produced the virtual reality Star Wars experience Trials on Tatooine in collaboration with ILMxLab, which was demoed at this year’s GDC.

The studio will be using Unreal Engine 4 to spruce up 2009’s Batman Arkham Asylum and 2011’s Arkham City, the predecessors to last year’s Arkham Knight.

Both of the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC titles were originally developed by Rocksteady using Unreal Engine 3.

In the announcement of the Return to Arkham pack, publisher Warner Bros said the updated engine would boast “improved graphics, as well as upgraded models, environments, lighting, effects and shaders”.

The re-release is set for release for PS4 and Xbox One on July 29th.
