Black Isle veterans reunited by Kickstarter campaign

Wasteland 2 raises $2.1m, Obsidian on board

Obsidian’s Chris Avellone has confirmed his studio will be joining inExile to work on the Wasteland 2 project, which has now raised $2.1 million.

InExile founder Brian Fargo launched the campaign with a $900,000 goal, but recently revealed that if the $2.1 million mark was reached, his studio would be joined by Obsidian.

"At this point the focus of this collaboration is getting Chris Avellone on the project," an inExile spokesperson told Develop.

Avellone is a veteran of Black Isle studios, and the mastermind of Planescape: Tormet.

Black Isle was once part of Interplay, also founded by Fargo, but when the studio closed, most of the developers left to form Obsidian Entertainment.

During its tenure at Interplay, the studio produced titles such as Fallout, Icewind Dale, Baldur’s Gate, and Planescape: Torment.

Avellone took to twitter to announce his joy at the reunion.

"Thanks to everyone who supported the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter – we hit the 2.1 million mark, can’t wait to get started!" he told his followers.

The team has announced several other incentives to help the crowdfunding campaign along its steady climb, and is offering complete modding tools at the $3 million dollar mark.
