Nintendo could be on course to post annual profit

Wii U sold 600k units last quarter

Sales of the Wii U in the quarter ending September hit 610k – double the number sold in the same quarter the year before.

Added to the 510k sales in the quarter before and that puts the console on 1.12m units for the past six months.

Lifetime sales of the Wii U, which Nintendo describes as enjoying “improved sales momentum”, now stand at 7.29m, which places it behind the PS4’s 10m+ but possibly ahead of Microsoft’s unconfirmed Xbox One sales number.

The financial news is promising too, with Nintendo posting an operating profit of ¥215m – up from last year’s ¥18bn loss – and a net profit of ¥14.3bn and the company now forecasting a full year profit of ¥40bn, which of course would be a much-needed positive after three successive years of losses.
