Xbox Live suffers "service alert"

With PSN currently surrounded by a national security controversy, Microsoft has now issued a service alert for users of Xbox Live.

The Xbox Live Status page on Xbox.com currently has a service alert for Matchmaking. It carries the following message: "Users may receive potential fishing attempts via title specific messaging while playing Modern Warfare 2."

"We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience."

Xbox Live, Xbox Live Marketplace and Account systems are all reportedly working normally.

Following the problems with PSN, an outage for Xbox Live could prove very harmful for the games industry’s reputation.
