Microsoft's next Xbox heads for release battle with Sony's PS4

Xbox One to launch worldwide this year

Microsoft’s next generation games system, Xbox One, will launch worldwide in 2013.

Microsoft’s present of interactive entertainment Don Mattrick confirmed that its new console will be available “later this year” at the console maker’s press conference in Redmond.

No date was given, but reports earlier today suggest the console could launch as early as the third quarter of 2013.

Both Microsoft and Sony are gearing up to release their new console before the end of this year, as they look to gain any advantage they can over their competitors.

During the press conference, Microsoft announced a new Kinect and controller for Xbox One, which itself features 8 GB RAM, a Blu-ray and its touted as being a “silent” machine.
