XX+ Games Jam aims to attract future female developers

A game jam next month will be hosted specifically for women, transgender and non-binary people in order to encourage more diversity within the world’s development workforce.

XX+ Games Jam will be held at five sites in the UK and two in Canada, and is aimed at aspiring developers of any skill level. Teams will have 24 hours to create a new game – whether that’s digital, physical or paper-based – from scratch.

The organisers have stressed that no background in programming or other tech is needed – this is also in the hopes of identifying potential artists, sound designers, organisers and writers. All that’s needed is ideas and enthusiasm.

The UK jams will be run by ReFIG and held in Brighton, Bristol, Leamington Spa, London and Norwich. You can apply to take part in your nearest one via the form found at Grrrl Games. Deadline for applications is October 4th.

XX+ Games Jam will run from 6pm on Friday, October 14th to 6pm on Saturday, October 15th. The event is only open to people over 18.
