A HTML5 edition of Mafia Wars launches worldwide

Zynga ups assault on mobile games

Social studio Zynga is accelerating its assault on the mobile games space by bringing one of its most popular titles, Mafia Wars, to mobile and tablets.

Zynga will be doing so with HTML5, a coding framework which Apple relies upon having snubbed the established Adobe Flash platform for its devices.

But the inclusion of HTML5 will not make Zynga’s new mobile spin-off an Apple exclusive. The game – entitled Mafia Wars Atlantic City – will also be playable on Android, WebOS, and BlackBerry devices.

Zynga has clearly made strides to expand into the mobile games market recently, having bought Words-With-Friends developer NewToy, Japanese mobile social games firm Unoh, and mobile browser games firm Dextrose AG.
