DriveClub PS+ £42.99 upgrade comes with a bit of a catch

Sony has detailed exactly how owners of the PS+ edition of DriveClub will be able to access the missing content.

DriveClub will release either as a full PS4 game or as a free download for PlayStation Plus users. This latter version, despite being feature rich, skips many of the tracks and cars found in the full game.

Sony product manager Chris Brown has now said that PS+ subscribers who download the free release will be able to pay 42.99 to access all of the missing content. But there’s a catch.

If you’re an active PlayStation Plus subscriber and have been playing the PlayStation Plus Edition, but decide you want the full DriveClub experience, you can purchase a one-time upgrade for €49.99/$49.99/42.99,” he explained.

This will give you access to all five locations, 55 tracks, 50 cars and all 50 tour events, as long as your PlayStation Plus subscription remains active. If you’re not an active PlayStation Plus member, you can still get DriveClub via the PlayStation Store or your local retailer on Blu-ray.”

All of which suggests that those who at some stage down the line decide not to renew their PS+ membership will lose access to all the DriveClub content they paid for.

And considering the game itself is liable to cost between 40-50 at retail (or even on PSN), it begs the question why anyone would choose for the PS+ ‘upgrade’?

DriveClub is out in the UK on October 10th.

UPDATE: Sony has now said that users will retain access to the upgrade content even if their PS+ subscription expires.
