E3 2010: 3D ‘a quantum leap’ for games

Crytek last night confirmed that its EA Partners-published Crysis 2 will boast stereoscopic 3D – and described the new vision tech as a ‘quantum leap’ for games.

Crysis 2 is due this autumn for consoles and PC, it is built with German studio Crytek’s proprietary CryENGINE 3.

EA says the game will be the first major multi-platform game to make use of stereoscopic 3D – neatly forgetting that Ubisoft had in fact launched Avatar as a 3D game last year.

But nevertheless Crysis’ move to 3D shows the cutting edge stereoscopic tech offers real allure.

"At Crytek, we always strive to raise the technology bar," said Cevat Yerli, CEO and president of Crytek.

"As the 3D revolution sweeps movies and television, we are excited to bring Crysis 2 to 3D, making it the first big action game to be available in true stereoscopic 3D.

"The 3D experience represents a quantum leap in interactive entertainment. With all of the same story and action seen in the 2D version of the game, the 3D version adds another dimension of intensity and immersion to the action."
