EA tipped for third consecutive ‘Worst Company’ gong

The Consumerist has admitted that EA looks like a strong contender to claim an unprecedented third consecutive Worst Company in America gong.

We haven’t even begun to ask for nominations from readers for the next Worst Company In America tournament, but some are already making the case for once again giving the Golden Poo trophy to reigning two-time WCIA winner Electronic Arts,” it wrote.

While EA’s growth in recent years has been positive, the way the company treats its customer base may be dooming the video game publisher to another season the WCIA finals.

The company’s decision to ignore those Golden Poos and continue releasing shoddy product should be a wake-up call to consumers, who should vote with their wallets and choose to not buy EA video games until the company learns to respect its customer base.”

Citing an article published elsewhere, it then references not only the famous SimCity fiasco but also the technical problems that continue to trouble DICE’s shooter Battlefield 4, which was released at the beginning of November.

EA claimed its second Golden poo last April, having also been awarded it the year before, sparking a spirited defence from exec Peter Moore.

In November last year EA Studios EVP Patrick Soderlund told MCV that he not only does not believe EA is the worst company in America, he also hopes that in time the publisher can reverse its public perception.

Elsewhere, EA’s former US PR boss Jeff Brown has told VentureBeat that: I spent 14 years at EA. The only institution I have ever done longer is my marriage. When I started, I thought it would be a 12-month gig. I had no intention of staying that long.

People tend to forget EA is a company full of people. They are proud of what they built. When someone attacks it, they respond. EA is misunderstood a lot. It’s a company full of people who are really passionate about games.”

MCV has argued before that the very idea of a games publisher being named as America’s worst company is preposterous. That stance has certainly not changed.
