Chipotle to sponsor OpTic Gaming

Chipotle Mexican Grill has announced a sponsorship deal with OpTic Gaming, OpTic revealed Tuesday.

Chipotle are one of the world’s largest fast food chains, and have probably seen esports as a more affordable and acceptable way to advertise than with conventional sports, with esports advertisement being an effective way to reach the young male market. This is Chipotle’s first sponsorship in esports.

The Chipotle logo will be on OpTic’s jerseys for the 2017 Call of Duty World League Championships, and it seems Chipotle could have backed a winner, OpTic. often known as The Green Wall, won last month’s CWL Stage Two playoffs, and are one of the top teams to watch at the competition. If they do well, they could be walking around with a big chunk of a $1.5m prize pool.

The tournament kicks off tomorrow, OpTic’s first match is against 3sUP.

“To have a food chain that massive be interested in esports is just the beginning,” said Hector ‘H3cz’ Rodriguez, the owner of OpTic Gaming.

“They’re starting out with us, and then where do they go from here?”
