Counter-Strike Classic Offensive mod gets greenlit on Steam

A mod for CS:GO called Classic Offensive has been greenlit on Steam and will be released on Valve’s distribution platform.

The mod aims to bring back Counter-Strike 1.6 style gameplay in the new CS:GO engine, and while it can’t quite make it a perfect 1.6 recreation it aims to bring back the feel of the classic title. Thing such as weapons, maps, models and sounds will all be changed to the style of CS 1.6, meaning this is probably as close as we will ever get to a 1.6 remake.

As you might expect the community have loved this idea and have got it through Steam Greenlight pretty quickly. This means that once development is complete Classic Offensive will be made available on Steam for all to purchase and play.

Chances are this won’t become the next major eSport, especially with CS:GO doing so well, but it will be nice to jump back in for a round or two when this launches to remind ourselves of the good old days.
