Quake Champions will launch on Steam, reveals developer Q&A

Quake Champions full release will be made available on Steam, a developer Q&A has revealed, meaning that even though the beta is only playable via the Bethesda.net app, the game will launch on Steam, opening it up to many more competitive players on PC.

This is a big deal, as a big playerbase is essential for both free-to-play games and competitive esports, of which Quake Champions is both. The news came out of a development Q&A, https://bethesda.net/community/topic/65704/ask-us-anything-dev-answers-6-23

Still, it’s not entirely free of Bethesda.net, as you’ll still need a linked account for Bethesda’s service to play, you just won’t be locked into using their proprietary app for the game once it’s launched.

Other big topics were the nerf to B.J. Blazkowicz, who is moonlighting in Quake Champions from his leading role in the Wolfenstein franchise, the frequency of player barks, and both improved network code and fixes for the problem of frequent disconnects. It’s a good Q&A for fans of the game and those curious about where it could be going competitively, if you’re into that.
