Quakecon to host first Quake Champions tournament in August

Quakecon will be kicking off this year on August 24, with the Dallas event celebrating all things Bethesda. 2017’s event will also host the very first pro tournament for Quake Champions.

Quake Champions is the forthcoming respawn of id Software’s classic multiplayer shooter, currently going through sporadic beta testing.

The next test runs from May 12 – May 21, and you can sign up on the Quake website. It’s best to get your practice in now, as qualifiers for the August tournament will be held in June, with matches in both Duel — a 1v1 mode —and Sacrifice, a four on four team mode.

There’s currently no date for the release of Quake Champions, so it’s possible the tournament will be run on a late alpha or very early completed build of the game, although it’s possible that this tournament will be played out either immediately after or immediately before the game’s launch.

There’s currently no word on who might take part or what the prize could be, but fans of the classic game and organisations looking for a new shooter to build a roster for will likely be watching closely for new talent.
