Yahoo to host its first Smash Bros competition this weekend

Yahoo Esports has announced that it plans to host its first ever Super Smash Bros. Melee competition this weekend.

The event follows on from the collegiate League of Legends competitions that the organisation ran last year, showing that its investment in eSports wasn’t just on the media side of things.

The Smash Rivalries by Yahoo Esports event will take place this weekend, on April 8th and 9th in Los Angeles. It will bit the best Smash Melee players from the east coast of the US against the best from the west coast, and the list of players is pretty impressive.

Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma, Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman, Joseph “Mang0” Marquez, Zachary “SFAT” Cordoni, Weston “Westballz” Dennis and Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson are just a few of the big names set to compete this weekend.

The competition will see both singles and doubles brackets played out, as well as the East vs. West, 8-on-8 crew battle.

Wynton “prog” Smith, D’Ron “D1” Maingrette, Brandon “HomeMadeWaffles” Collier, Phil DeBerry, and Kris “Toph” Aldenderfer will be on hand to cast the event.
