GameStop hikes PlayStation Camera price as US shortages take hold

The US arm of games retailer GameStop has added an extra $10 to the price of the PS4 Camera.

The device normally sells for $59, although that is currently being bumped up to $69. GameStop didn’t reply when asked by Polygon if the price increase was as a direct result of its scarcity.

The PlayStation Camera remains in short supply in the US and is hard to source either online or on the High Street. Interestingly it seems to be in abundance in the UK and is currently at stock at all the big online retailers.

"While we do not comment on the sales figures, shipment or monthly production quantity, PlayStation Camera remains in high demand,” a Sony spokesperson told Polygon.

We’ve been pleased with the camera’s popularity among PlayStation 4 owners. Live broadcasting on PS4 is thriving, with more than 3.6 million live gameplay broadcasts streamed via Twitch and Ustream. PS4’s broadcasting capabilities have been a driver for strong sales of the PS Camera, which puts the gamer front and center to engage with the community more directly.

We continue to control our production according to market demand and increase the production as necessary to meet the needs."
