GTX 970 named as the entry-level GPU for VR on PC

The price of the headset is just the beginning of what looks to be the very expensive virtual reality revolution.

Nvidia has named the minimum requirements for playing VR games on PC. The cheapest compatible graphics card is the GTX 970, which currently retails for around 250. Also compatible are the 980, 980 Ti and Titan X.

The CPU specs are pretty meaty, too, with the Intel Core i5 4590 named as the entry point. Also needed is 8GB of RAM, two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI 1.3 port and Windows 7 SP1 or later.

Hitting these specs should allow users to stream two simultaneous images (as is needed for VR) at 90+fps.

Nvidia will also be branding up its VR compatible hardware with a new label – GeForce GTX VR Ready Program. System builders will also be allowed to use the branding on compatible builds.

Oculus has previously said that the headset will retail for at least $300.
