Publisher admits cuts, denies they will effect consumer

Job cuts at Square Enix LA

Square Enix has confirmed a number of layoffs at its LA office.

Final Fantasy XIV has performed poorly, and rumours of the layoffs suggested they would effect the company’s MMO offerings Wakfu and the upcoming FFXIV relaunch.

While admitting staff had been cut, Sqaure Enix denies that this will alter its services for the consumer.

"In order to ensure it is operating effectively, the Square Enix Los Angeles office has reduced its workforce," senior director of public relations Riley Brennan told Massively.

"This was a difficult decision and we wish the best for those affected by these changes. The decision will not have any impact on the operations of MMO titles. Customers can expect those services to continue, including the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn."

It is currently unknown if the cuts have affected developers or administrative staff.
