Microsoft takes on the High Street with competitive Xbox One digital pricing

The price of one of Xbox One’s leading exclusives is being significantly cut on Xbox Live.

The platform holder said last month that competitive digital software pricing was on the agenda”, and this looks set to begin with what could be a cut to 34.99 for Ryse: Son or Rome.

Lot of people asked for better deals on our digital marketplace, so we’re testing some and February 18th-24th you can get Ryse: Son of Rome off digital marketplace for $39.99,” Xbox studio manager Mike Ybarra said.

That’s far better than the used price at GameStop and others! Go digital! I am 99.9% sure the UK price will be the equivalent in region – but sent a note to double check. Will post when I hear (it’s early here).”

Sony has been running some reasonably aggressive discounting on its own digital store this year, without any noticeable drop in High Street retail support. With Xbox One continuing to trail the sales race, is now the time for Microsoft to start doing the same?
