GTA IV topples LittleBigPlanet in Japan

Though the stats have yet to be officially validated, online sales tracker

VGChartz

is reporting that Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV has thoroughly outsold Sony’s LittleBigPlanet in the pair’s first week of sale.

GTA IV, which is published by Capcom in Japan, sold 104,000 copies in its first week – with 27,000 sold on Xbox 360 and 77,000 on PS3.

In contrast, Sony’s LittleBigPlanet shifted 30,000 copies, with 21,000 stand alone games selling and a further 7,000 units shifting as part of Sony’s DualShock 3 bundles. The stats do not take into account the number of games sold as part of the currently available PS3 hardware bundle.

The sales mark the second victory GTA IV can celebrate over LittleBigPlanet, having recently trumped it by scoring a rare 39/40 in Japanese games mag Famitsu.
