Kotick: Our Spider-Man games suck

We’re used to marketers defending what many regard as poor games, but it’s less common to hear a publisher boss lambaste his own titles – but that’s exactly what Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has done.

Speaking to Game Informer, as spotted by Destructoid, the high-flying exec stated: Our Spider-Man games have sucked for the last five years. They are bad games. They were poorly rated because they were bad games.

We went away from what is Spider-Man. It’s about web-slinging. If you don’t do web-slinging, what is the fantasy of Spider-Man?”

Recent Spider-Man games from Activision include 2004’s Spider-Man 2, the 2005 pairing of Spider-Man & Friends and Ultimate Spider-Man, the disappointing Spider-Man 3 and most recently 2008’s Spider-Man: Web of Shadows.

MCV thinks Kotick may be being a bit harsh on the latter release, which by all accounts was thoroughly OK.
