The Sun creates We Dare controversy

UK newspaper The Sun is trying to stir up trouble for Ubisoft’s upcoming Wii and PS3 game We Dare.

A new trailer for the title turned heads last week thanks to its focus on cheeky adult-orientated fun such as bottom slapping and nose rubbing.

However, the Sun has latched onto the game’s PEGI 12 rating.

"A raunchy game for the Nintendo Wii has outraged parents who say it promotes orgies and lesbian sex to kids as young as 12," it wrote.

"One version of the promotional video, already seen by 375,000 people on YouTube, ends with the lads swapping partners and apparently going off to have sex. An alternative ending has all four romping together."

The paper then quotes 52 year old Laura Pearson from Brimingham who says: "I have a 13-year-old daughter. If I knew she was playing a highly-charged sexual game I would be appalled."

Ubisoft has stated that the game is intended for an adult audience and that it has no jurisdiction over the age rating imposed by PEGI.

In a further development, a publisher rep told IGN that the game isn’t currently planned for the American market, meaning it’s to remain Europe-only for now.
