Nintendo will make two Zelda titles available for download by the end of the year.
The platform holder’s E3 press conference kicked off with a musical celebration of the Zelda series, with a medley of themes played by a full orchestra, before franchise creator Shigeru Miyamoto took to the stage.
He announced that, as part of Zelda’s 25th anniversary celebrations, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will be released on the 3DS Virtual Console tomorrow. It will be the first Game Boy Colour to be made available on the new handheld’s eShop.
Miyamoto also announced that The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords – a co-op quest that was included with the GBA version of Link to the Past – would be released as a free download for 3DS in September.
Additionally, Nintendo will be holding Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony concerts around the world throughout the year, during which attendees can enjoy some of the series’ most iconic themes performed by an orchestra.
Miyamoto added that a free CD of music from the concerts would be given to the first people to register their copy of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword through Club Nintendo. He confirmed that the upcoming Wii title would be available by Christmas.
