NINTENDO: Amiibo toys-to-life range revealed

Nintendo has entered the toys-to-life category with Amiibo.

Available exclusively on Nintendo platforms, the Amiibo range will include a variety of characters. It will also support characters from both Disney Infinity and Skylanders: Trap Team on Wii U.

Nintendo announced Super Smash Bros Wii U will be the first title to support Amiibo and both will launch simultaneously later this year.

Mario Kart 8 will also receive future support from the toys-to-life range.

Figurines will carry a special chip, which will enable the two-way transfer of data. Players need only touch a character on the Wii U gamepad in order for the character to appear in-game.

Data is transferred between the figurine and game. The result is a personalised character in-game whilst a player’s data is saved into each individual toy.

In addition to the above, Nintendo has said that Captain Toad; Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10 and Yoshi’s Wooly World will be compatiable with Amiibo.
