PS Vita plays second fiddle to PSP in second week as 3DS shines

A drop in sales of 78 per cent week-on-week for the PlayStation Vita in its second week of sale in Japan has seen sales fall below that of its predecessor the PlayStation Portable.

Andriasang reports that Vita sales fell from 325k to 72k – that’s fewer than all of the other ‘active’ consoles on the market, including PSP.

By comparison, the 3DS enjoyed its strongest ever week in Japan with sales of 482k, taking it past the 4m sales line in the region.

Notably, it has hit this target two months ahead of its first anniversary – that’s the date CEO Saturo Iwata had previously stated that he wanted to have hit 4m sales by.

When asked to comment on Vita’s sales by Bloomberg, Sony declined.
